The government is moving ahead with plans to expand renewable energy generation after Energy Minister Deogratius Ndejembi arrived in Shinyanga for a working visit focused on a major solar power project.
Ndejembi was received by Shinyanga Regional Commissioner Mboni Mhita as he began his official tour of the region, where he is expected to oversee the signing of an agreement to implement the second phase of a 100-megawatt (MW) solar power generation project at Ngunga in Kishapu District.
The project forms part of Tanzania’s ongoing efforts to increase electricity generation capacity, diversify energy sources and strengthen the reliability of power supply for households, businesses and industries.
The Ngunga solar project is expected to contribute to the country’s renewable energy ambitions by tapping into abundant solar resources while supporting economic activities in Shinyanga and beyond.
The Minister is accompanied by the Ministry of Energy Permanent Secretary responsible for Electricity and Renewable Energy, Engineer Felchesmi Mramba, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Energy and Minerals Chairperson Subira Mgalu (MP), and the committee’s Vice Chairperson Simon Songe Lusengekile.
The visit comes as the government continues to prioritise energy investments aimed at improving access to reliable electricity and creating a stronger foundation for industrial and economic development.
