President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has called for stronger efforts to expand trade, investment and industrial development as he officially closed the 50th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).
Dr. Mwinyi said the five-decade exhibition has grown into an important economic platform that connects businesses, investors and consumers while promoting locally produced goods and services.
Speaking at the closing ceremony on July 13, 2026, the President said DITF has contributed significantly to strengthening Tanzania’s economic diplomacy by attracting investors, promoting innovation and creating opportunities for manufacturers and entrepreneurs to access new markets.
“Over the years, these exhibitions have provided a valuable platform for businesses to showcase their products, build partnerships and explore investment opportunities,” Dr. Mwinyi said.
He urged Tanzanian businesses to take advantage of opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), saying the continental market offers a major opportunity for local producers to expand beyond domestic borders.
Dr. Mwinyi also called on government institutions to continue improving the business environment by reducing unnecessary bureaucratic procedures that affect investment and trade.
He said creating a competitive business environment would enable Tanzanian products to compete effectively in regional and international markets.
“The government will continue strengthening policies that support business growth, industrial development and responsible management of public resources,” he said.
The President said sustainable economic growth requires cooperation between the government and the private sector, noting that stronger partnerships are essential in creating jobs, increasing production and improving citizens’ livelihoods.
During the event, Dr. Mwinyi presented awards to exhibitors and participants who excelled during the 2026 DITF.
He was also honoured with a special award marking the 50th anniversary of the trade fair for his contribution to its continued success.
Earlier, before closing the exhibition, Dr. Mwinyi visited various pavilions where he viewed products and services showcased by public institutions, private companies and international exhibitors.
The Golden Jubilee edition of DITF brought together local and foreign businesses, providing a platform for showcasing investment opportunities, promoting trade links and highlighting Tanzania’s economic potential.
