Thousands of students in Mvomero District are set to benefit from improved access to secondary education after the government approved TZS 1.1 billion for the construction of two new secondary schools.
The funding follows a request by Mvomero MP Sara Msafiri and Morogoro Regional Special Seats MP Josephine Kapoma, who appealed for additional education infrastructure to address growing demand and improve learning conditions in the district.
Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Prof. Riziki Shemdoe, announced the allocation on July 18, 2026, during his inspection tour of development projects in Morogoro Region.
Prof. Shemdoe said the funds had already been released to the Mvomero District Council, with the new schools expected to be built in Dakawa and Mzumbe wards.
“Ms Msafiri and Ms Kapoma requested the construction of four schools. I submitted the request to the Prime Minister, who later presented it to President Samia Suluhu Hassan. The President approved TZS 1.1 billion for the construction of two schools, and the funds have already been deposited into the council’s account,” he said.
The minister was speaking at Mkindo Village after laying the foundation stone for Mkindo Secondary School, a project funded through TZS 528 million allocated by President Samia.
He said expanding education infrastructure remains a government priority as Tanzania works to ensure more students have access to quality learning facilities closer to their communities.
Prof. Shemdoe also called on the private sector to partner with the government by investing in teachers’ housing projects, noting that better accommodation would help improve teachers’ working conditions and strengthen education delivery.
During his visit, the minister also inspected and launched surgical services at the newly constructed operating theatre at Mvomero District Hospital, equipped with modern medical facilities.
The new facility is expected to increase access to specialised healthcare services for about 459,304 residents of Mvomero District and surrounding areas by enabling patients to receive surgical services locally.
In another education development, Prof. Shemdoe inaugurated four new classrooms at Miembeni Primary School, constructed at a cost of TZS 115 million.
Mvomero MP Sara Msafiri thanked President Samia for supporting the construction of Mkindo Science Secondary School, saying the institution would create opportunities for students to pursue science careers and contribute to the country’s workforce needs.
Special Seats MP Josephine Kapoma also commended the government’s continued investment in education infrastructure, particularly in rural areas, saying the projects would improve access to quality education for communities in Mvomero.
