Residents of Korongwe Ward in Nkasi District have been urged to take an active role in the construction of a new police station, a project expected to improve access to security services and enhance public safety in the area.
The call was made on Sunday by Rukwa Regional Police Commander (RPC) SACP Shadrack Masija during a meeting with ward, village and hamlet leaders to discuss the implementation of the project.
Mr Masija said the police station is being built in response to a request from residents, which the government has approved and funded.
He said the facility is part of the government's broader efforts to expand access to security services by bringing police closer to communities, with the aim of strengthening peace, protecting lives and property, and supporting local development.
The regional police chief urged residents to contribute to the project's successful implementation by working with local leaders to safeguard construction materials and support the building process until completion.
Speaking on behalf of Korongwe Ward leaders, Councillor Hamis Huseni welcomed the government's decision to establish the police station, describing it as an important investment in the area's security.
He also pledged that local leaders and residents would protect construction materials and provide the necessary cooperation to ensure the project is completed on time.
Once completed, the police station is expected to improve the delivery of law enforcement services and reduce the distance residents travel to access police assistance.
