Minister of Finance, Ambassador Khamis Mussa Omar (MP), has held discussions with the newly appointed International Monetary Fund (IMF) Resident Representative, Ms. Jana Bricco, focusing on strengthening economic cooperation and supporting Tanzania’s development agenda.

The meeting took place at the Ministry of Finance Sub-Office in Dar es Salaam, where Ms. Bricco introduced herself ahead of officially assuming her duties in August 2026.

She was accompanied by the outgoing IMF Resident Representative, Mr. Sebastian Acevedo, whose term has come to an end after serving in Tanzania.

The discussions centered on deepening the long-standing partnership between Tanzania and the IMF, with both sides emphasizing continued collaboration in supporting strategic development projects, ongoing economic reforms, and efforts to sustain macroeconomic stability and inclusive growth.

Hon. Ambassador Omar welcomed the continued engagement with the IMF and reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to prudent fiscal management and reforms aimed at strengthening the national economy for the benefit of citizens.

He also expressed appreciation to Mr. Acevedo for his contribution during his tenure, noting his role in strengthening cooperation and maintaining a productive relationship between Tanzania and the IMF.

As of 31 March 2026, IMF support to Tanzania, through loans and grants, stood at SDR 3.27 billion, equivalent to approximately TZS 12.1 trillion.

The funds have been channeled through the Government budget to support key development priorities, including infrastructure, social services, and economic reforms.

The meeting was also attended by the Acting Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, who is also Commissioner for External Finance, Mr. Rished Bade, alongside Senior Finance Management Officer from the External Finance Department, Ms. Mukajungu Kamuzora.
