Mashujaa shift focus to Azam FC in tough Away test

By Victoria Godfrey

Mashujaa FC head coach Jamhuri Kihwelu, widely known as “Julio,” has said his team is fully focused on their next NBC Premier League assignment against Azam FC, where they will be targeting a vital three points.

Mashujaa will face Azam FC on June 16, 2026, at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam, in what is expected to be a demanding away fixture.

The Kigoma-based side heads into the match looking to recover from a 2-0 defeat to Young Africans SC, a result that came in their previous league outing at Lake Tanganyika Stadium.

Speaking on preparations, Julio acknowledged the difficulty of the upcoming encounter, noting Azam’s strength at home and their overall quality in the league.

However, he maintained that Mashujaa are not travelling to Chamazi to make up numbers, insisting the team is determined to compete and fight for a positive result.

He said the technical bench is closely analysing the weaknesses exposed in the defeat to Young Africans SC, with particular focus on defensive organisation, concentration lapses, and finishing in the final third.

“We know it will be a tough match because Azam are strong, especially when they play at home. But we are preparing well, correcting our mistakes, and our aim is to compete strongly and get a good result,” said Julio.

Julio further stressed that every remaining match in the season carries significant importance as Mashujaa push to collect enough points to secure their NBC Premier League status for next season.

He added that consistency, discipline, and mental strength will be key factors if the team is to improve its standing in the league table.

Mashujaa will now look to respond positively after their setback against Young Africans SC as they prepare for a challenging away clash against one of the league’s most competitive sides.
