Communications and public relations officers in government have been urged to develop engaging and accurate storytelling that helps citizens clearly understand the benefits and opportunities created through government development projects across the country.
The call was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Chief Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, while presenting a paper on “Infrastructure as a Pillar of Employment, Business, Services and National Competitiveness” during the Annual General Meeting of the Tanzania Government Communication Officers Association, TAGCO, held in Mwanza.
Msigwa emphasized that infrastructure development remains a central driver of Tanzania’s long-term national vision, including the goals of Vision 2050, as it directly supports job creation, business growth, improved service delivery, and national competitiveness.
He stressed that communication officers have a critical responsibility to translate government investments into clear public understanding, ensuring that citizens are fully aware of the progress being made in key sectors such as roads, energy, railways, ports, and digital infrastructure.
He further noted that effective communication is not only about reporting projects, but also about shaping national understanding of development outcomes and strengthening trust between the government and citizens.
According to him, well-crafted storytelling should highlight real-life impacts of infrastructure projects, including how they improve livelihoods, open up markets, and create new economic opportunities for communities across the country.
The meeting brought together communication professionals from various government institutions to share experiences, strengthen coordination, and improve public information delivery in support of national development priorities.
