Senior ACT Wazalendo leader Prof. Omar Fakih Hamad has called for stronger unity and discipline within the party, saying cohesion among members remains central to its political progress and influence in Zanzibar.

Prof. Omar, a Member of the ACT Wazalendo National Executive Committee and Chief Whip in the House of Representatives, made the remarks on June 14, 2026, in Shangani, Mkokotoni, Unguja, while opening the party’s Constitutional General Meeting for Kijini Constituency in North A Region.

He said the party’s continued progress has been driven by solidarity among its leaders and members, urging them to protect that unity as a foundation for future success.

“This unity must be safeguarded and strengthened. It is our greatest strength in building a strong political movement,” he said.

Prof. Omar encouraged members to remain focused on strengthening internal cohesion and avoiding divisions that could arise from competition for leadership positions, warning that such differences could weaken the party if not managed properly.

He also urged leaders in Kijini Constituency to remain close to citizens and ensure that community concerns are effectively raised through official party and parliamentary channels for action.

“Our responsibility is to listen to the people and bring their concerns forward for solutions through the appropriate institutions,” he said.

On inter-party engagement, Prof. Omar noted that ongoing discussions between ACT Wazalendo and CCM were progressing positively, adding that the public would be informed through official channels once necessary agreements are reached. He called for calm and unity among citizens during the process.

“Let us remain patient and united as leaders continue discussions aimed at strengthening cooperation and national harmony,” he said.

Earlier, Kijini Constituency Secretary for Planning and Elections, Hamad Abuu Hamad, confirmed that the meeting reached quorum, with 122 members attending, equivalent to 58 percent of the 191 required under the party constitution.

He said the strong turnout reflected effective coordination between constituency and regional leadership structures, which continues to support party organisation and grassroots engagement in North A Region.

The meeting concluded with renewed calls for unity, discipline, and stronger grassroots mobilisation as ACT Wazalendo leaders emphasized their commitment to strengthening party structures and community engagement across Kijini Constituency.
