Two local chess players will represent the country at the coming Mozambique Rapid Chess tournament which is slated for 20-23 August in Maputo, Tanzania Chess Association (TACA) disclosed.
Mussa Mangula who is TACA said the two were selected after an impressive performance at the just ended National Championships In Dar es Salaam .
He named the selected players as Nasri Parsa and Neema Chisanga ,saying both of them had impressive performances at National Championships.
Mangula disclosed that Parsa was the winner in men category while Neema was runners up in Women category, and the two will travel to Mozambique with TACA president Geoffrey Mwanyika
He said the selection of the two reflect the association’s continued commitment to promoting competitive chess and creating opportunities for Tanzanian players to gain valuable international experience
“As part of its commitment to expanding international exposure for Tanzanian players, TACA is pleased to announce the nomination of two outstanding players to represent Tanzania at the Mozambique Rapid Chess Tournament to be held in Maputo from 20th to 23rd August 2026, following the allocation of two participation slots to Tanzania,” he said.
Meanwhile, the TACA Information officer said the association has intensified preparations for a busy international chess calendar in 2026, with activities now focused on both the upcoming Mozambique Rapid Chess Tournament in August and the Chess Olympiad scheduled for September.
He said players selected for the Olympiad will start nonresidential camp on Saturday at Don Bosco , Upanga Camps .
“The sessions are expected to bring together players, captains, trainers, and technical personnel in a structured preparation program aimed at strengthening team cohesion, competitive readiness, and overall performance ahead of the international assignments,
“At the same time, preparations are also underway for Tanzania’s participation in the 2026 Chess Olympiad in September. The association has already begun coordinating team preparations, logistics, and leadership structures aimed at ensuring the national teams are adequately prepared for the prestigious global event,” he said.
The names of the players who will be in the Open section are Parsa Nasser, Albert Njau, Sarota Patrick, Henry Marwa, and Rashid Sharif.
These players secured their places after consistent and impressive performances throughout the tournament, showing strong tactical awareness and composure under pressure.
In the women’s category, Anahi Rishit Shah emerged as the national champion of the trials. She is joined on the team by Neema Adam, Bertha Mkude, Lissa Joseph, and Mariam Gwae, forming a balanced squad of both experienced and rising talents.
Further ,he said TACA leadership has emphasized the importance of unity, discipline, and collective effort as Tanzania prepares to compete on the international stage in both Mozambique and the Olympiad slated for Uzbekistan.
