The Tanzania Handball Federation (THF) has elected new leaders following its General Election held recently, a development expected to inject fresh momentum into the governance and growth of handball across the country.
The election brought together stakeholders from different regions, who participated in choosing leaders at various levels of the federation’s structure.
The exercise was competitive and closely watched, reflecting increasing efforts to strengthen sports governance and improve the performance of handball in Tanzania.
In the presidential race, Michael Martin Chibawala emerged victorious and has been entrusted with leading the federation for the next term.
His election places him at the centre of efforts to steer reforms aimed at improving administration, expanding visibility, and enhancing the overall development of handball from grassroots to national level.
Stakeholders in the sport have expressed optimism that the new leadership will prioritize strengthening institutional structures, improving the organization of competitions, and developing more structured talent identification and development pathways for young athletes across the country.
The elections also produced new regional representatives, ensuring wider geographical inclusion in the federation’s leadership framework.
In the Northern Zone, Nurdin Seleman Msuta was elected as representative. The Southern Highlands Zone will be represented by Amelye Mgeni, while the Eastern Zone elected Juma Mashaka Luziga.
In the Western Zone, Daud Mbeya Sichinga secured the position, while Vincent Shinda will represent the Lake Zone. The Central Zone will be represented by Sadick Edward Mbaya.
The outcome reflects a balanced mix of leaders drawn from different parts of the country, a development seen as important in strengthening coordination, unity, and inclusivity within the federation’s decision-making processes.
In a key governance role, Herman J. Kidifu was elected Chairperson of the Election Committee. He will oversee electoral processes within THF, ensuring they are conducted in accordance with established regulations and upheld principles of transparency, accountability, and fairness.
Sports stakeholders have described the election as a significant milestone for the federation, noting that leadership transition is vital for building stronger institutions and enhancing the competitiveness of handball in Tanzania.
Attention now turns to the new leadership’s ability to translate their mandate into action, with expectations high among players, clubs, and fans for reforms that will expand participation, strengthen coaching systems, and improve the quality of domestic leagues.
With the new team now in place, the focus shifts to implementation and delivery, as the federation looks to reposition handball as a more structured and competitive sport nationwide.
