Tanzania’s hopes of securing a historic place at the Olympic Games will be on the line tomorrow when the national beach volleyball team faces Uganda in a decisive African Zone Five Championship match at Sawa Sawa Beach in Dar es Salaam.
The encounter is expected to determine Tanzania’s fate in the race for Olympic qualification, with the hosts needing victory to strengthen their chances of progressing to the next stage.
So far, Tanzania has impressed in the regional competition after registering three victories against Burundi, Egypt and Sudan, while suffering a single defeat to Kenya.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, Assistant Coach Yusuph Mkalambati said the team is fully focused on delivering a strong performance and keeping alive the dream of representing Tanzania at the Olympic Games in the United States.
He said the squad’s recent victory had boosted confidence and morale among players ahead of the crucial showdown against Uganda.
“We understand the importance of this match because we have already won three games and lost one. Our focus now is to make sure we secure victory and avoid relying on other results,” said Mkalambati.
He noted that qualification for the Olympics would mark a major milestone for Tanzanian beach volleyball and further elevate the country’s profile on the international stage.
“This is an opportunity to create history for Tanzania’s beach volleyball. The players are highly motivated and determined to fight until the end,” he added.
Mkalambati also urged Tanzanians to turn out in large numbers to support the national team, saying home support could play a vital role in inspiring the players during the high-stakes encounter.
The ongoing championship has attracted some of the strongest beach volleyball teams in the region, with countries battling for a rare opportunity to qualify for the world’s biggest sporting event.
