Preparations for the 2025 Best Athletes Awards ceremony, organized by the National Sports Council (NSC), have reached 90 percent completion, with final arrangements underway ahead of the prestigious national event.
The ceremony is scheduled to take place on May 9, 2026, at The Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, starting at 6:00 PM, bringing together top-performing athletes, coaches, sports leaders, and stakeholders from across the country.
According to NSC Executive Secretary Neema Msitha, the organizing committee has finalized most logistical and technical preparations to ensure a smooth and successful event that reflects the value of sports excellence in Tanzania.
She said the remaining 10 percent of preparations focuses on final coordination and public engagement, including encouraging more Tanzanians to attend and participate in the celebration of sporting achievements.
“This is an important occasion to appreciate and celebrate athletes who have performed exceptionally well. We have witnessed world medals and athletes reaching World Cup finals. The aim is to inspire others to work harder and achieve even greater success,” said Msitha.
She further noted that the annual awards have become a key national platform for recognizing outstanding contributions in sports, not only from athletes but also from coaches, officials, and other stakeholders who have played a role in advancing sports development in Tanzania and beyond.
This year’s edition will feature 21 award categories, an increase from 20 categories in 2024. The newly introduced category is the Sports Journalist Award, which is designed to recognize the critical role of media professionals in promoting, developing, and popularizing sports in the country.
Msitha also encouraged the public to actively participate in selecting the People’s Choice Best Player award by casting votes via WhatsApp number +255 689 525 363.
She emphasized that public participation adds value to the awards by ensuring fans have a direct voice in recognizing their favorite athletes.
The NSC Awards continue to grow in stature each year, serving as a national celebration of sporting excellence and a motivation for athletes to raise their performance standards on regional and international stages.
