Ndele Mwaselela has said President Samia Suluhu Hassan remains committed to ensuring leaders stay connected with citizens through direct engagement and participation in community development activities.
The National Executive Council (NEC) member of Chama Cha Mapinduzi for Mbeya Region made the remarks during a ceremony held on May 15 2026 to honour teachers from Iyela Ward whose schools recorded strong performances in national examinations over the past three years.
The event celebrated achievements in Form Four Form Five Form Two and Standard Seven examinations by both primary and secondary schools in the ward.
Speaking during the ceremony Mwaselela said the government under President Samia has prioritised people-centred leadership where leaders are expected not only to inspect projects but also to appreciate and support the efforts of ordinary citizens and public servants.
He noted that teachers play a critical role in shaping the nation’s future and deserve recognition for their contribution to improving academic standards.
“Strong relations between leaders and citizens are built through participation in community activities. It is not enough to visit schools only for inspections without recognising the results achieved by teachers and students” he said.
Mwaselela added that while wananchi often congratulate the ruling party for improved education results teachers remain the key drivers behind the success and should therefore be publicly acknowledged and motivated.
He further said President Samia has continued to demonstrate a strong commitment to improving the education sector through increased investment in learning infrastructure and better teaching environments.
As an example he cited the government’s allocation of Sh250 million for the construction of a modern hall at Samora Secondary School in Mbeya describing the project as part of wider efforts to strengthen the quality of education in the region.
“The investment being made in education clearly shows that President Samia is standing side by side with wananchi. Our responsibility as leaders is to continue explaining the achievements of the government to the public” he said.
Mwaselela also called on special seats councillors in Mbeya Region to intensify grassroots engagement by visiting wards regularly to explain government initiatives aimed at empowering women and improving the welfare of girls in schools.
He said listening to challenges facing female students would help leaders find practical solutions and strengthen efforts to improve access to quality education for all children.
Meanwhile Andason Mwalongo said Iyela Ward has emerged as one of the leading areas in academic performance due to effective cooperation between teachers school administrators and education officials.
He revealed that more than Sh1.5 billion has been allocated for school infrastructure projects in the ward including the construction and improvement of classrooms and other learning facilities.
Mwalongo stressed the importance of proper management of the funds to ensure they bring meaningful improvements to the learning environment and contribute to better educational outcomes for students.
