The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries (Livestock), Dr. Fabian Magawa Madele, has called on senior government officials working in the livestock and fisheries sectors to strengthen professionalism, integrity, accountability, and patriotism in the delivery of public services.
Dr. Madele made the call in Dodoma during a working session that brought together Assistant Administrative Secretaries for Economy and Production, Regional Veterinary and Fisheries Officers, and Heads of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Departments from across the country.
The meeting focused on reviewing sector priorities for the 2026/2027 financial year and strengthening coordination in implementation.
He said the government expects all officials to work with commitment and discipline in order to improve service delivery, boost productivity, and ensure that livestock and fisheries resources contribute effectively to national development.
Dr. Madele said the forum was not only for discussions but also for building a shared understanding on challenges facing the sectors and agreeing on practical solutions.
“I urge you to use this platform to critically assess achievements and challenges in your areas of work and come up with strong and practical strategies to address them. This should also strengthen teamwork, knowledge sharing, and improve execution of your responsibilities,” he said.
He placed strong emphasis on the need to fight illegal fishing, directing officials to develop effective and affordable strategies to curb the practice, which continues to threaten the sustainability of aquatic resources and the livelihoods of communities depending on them.
Dr. Madele also highlighted the ongoing national livestock vaccination and identification campaign, saying it is key to controlling animal diseases, increasing productivity, and improving access to both domestic and international markets for livestock products.
On land management, he noted that the government, in collaboration with the National Land Use Planning Commission, has continued to implement land use plans that have resulted in the allocation of 196,324.25 hectares for grazing areas across the country.
He said the initiative will help reduce conflicts between farmers and pastoralists while enabling livestock keepers to develop pasture for improved productivity.
He added that the government continues to strengthen working systems and create an enabling environment for experts in the sectors to perform effectively and deliver results in line with national priorities outlined in the 2026/2027 budget.
Dr. Madele further reaffirmed the government’s commitment under President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the Ministry leadership to transform the livestock and fisheries sectors through improved livestock breeds, quality fish seed production, reliable animal feed supply, better access to water, value addition, and expanded markets for livestock and fish products.
He said these efforts are also improving animal health services and strengthening livestock identification systems.
For his part, Director of Research, Training and Extension (DRTE), Samwel Mdachi, said the meeting provided an important platform for officials to discuss key implementation areas including youth empowerment through soft loans, livestock feed production, policy implementation, disease control, data management, revenue collection, development projects, and aquaculture development.
He said strong coordination among sector stakeholders remains essential in ensuring that government programmes deliver meaningful impact to citizens and support inclusive economic growth.
