The Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has called on Tanzania’s Ambassador-designate to the Republic of Korea, Noel E. Kaganda, to strengthen economic diplomacy and ensure effective implementation of bilateral agreements between the two countries.

Kombo made the remarks on April 30, 2026, during a farewell and briefing session held at the Ministry’s sub-office in Dar es Salaam, where he underscored the importance of translating diplomatic relations into tangible national development results.

He said Tanzania and Korea continue to enjoy strong and growing relations, and urged the new envoy to focus on expanding cooperation in the blue economy, education, infrastructure, technology, industrial development, trade, investment, health and tourism.

“The role of our missions abroad is to ensure that every agreement signed delivers real benefits to Tanzanians through jobs, investment and technology transfer,” Kombo said.

He further directed Kaganda to closely monitor and follow up on all ongoing agreements between Tanzania and Korea, particularly those initiated during the state visit of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in June 2024.

The visit resulted in several strategic cooperation agreements aimed at boosting economic and development partnerships.

Kombo emphasized that effective implementation of these agreements will play a key role in supporting Tanzania’s broader economic diplomacy agenda, which prioritizes attracting investment and strengthening international partnerships for development.

On his part, Kaganda expressed appreciation for the guidance and confidence entrusted to him, pledging to fully implement Tanzania’s economic diplomacy priorities in his new role in Seoul.

He said he will work to ensure that Tanzania’s interests are well represented in the Republic of Korea and that existing cooperation frameworks are turned into practical opportunities for economic growth.

“I am committed to promoting Tanzania’s development agenda and ensuring that our cooperation with Korea delivers measurable benefits to our nation,” Kaganda said.

The briefing was also attended by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Samwel W. Shelukindo, who joined the Minister in wishing Kaganda success in his diplomatic assignment.
