The Minister of Home Affairs, Patrobas Katambi, has expressed gratitude to Samia Suluhu Hassan for what he described as major reforms and institutional strengthening that have significantly improved the performance of the ministry and its agencies.
Katambi made the remarks on May 25, 2026 in Parliament in Dodoma while presenting the Ministry of Home Affairs budget estimates for the 2026/27 financial year, noting that the government’s support has enhanced service delivery and operational efficiency across key security institutions.
He said one of the key achievements is the expansion of digital court services within correctional facilities. According to him, the availability of e-court services has now been extended to 18 additional prisons, bringing the total number of prisons connected to the system to 84 out of 129 nationwide.
He said the initiative has helped improve access to justice, reduce delays in court proceedings for inmates, and strengthen coordination between prisons and the judiciary.
Katambi also highlighted continued efforts to maintain peace, stability, and security across the country, saying security organs have remained vigilant and effective in addressing emerging challenges.
He further announced the completion of a major investment in the Fire and Rescue Force, valued at 100 million US dollars, aimed at strengthening the country’s emergency response capacity.
The investment has facilitated the procurement of 150 fire and rescue machines, 23 boats, and one helicopter to enhance operations in fire fighting and disaster response.
Katambi said the new equipment will significantly improve response times and operational efficiency in emergencies.
He added that the government has also procured three fire and chemical response trucks, five water-carrying vehicles, and two recovery machines designed for towing accident-damaged vehicles from roads.
“The government has continued to strengthen the Fire and Rescue Force with modern equipment that will enhance efficiency and service delivery,” Katambi said, noting that the investment reflects ongoing efforts to modernize emergency response systems in the country.
In the area of aviation security, Katambi also reported progress in the deployment of the Advanced Passenger Information System (APIS) and Passenger Name Record (PNR) systems at major airports, including Julius Nyerere International Airport, Abeid Amani Karume International Airport, and Mwanza Airport.
He said the systems allow authorities to receive and analyse passenger data in advance before travellers enter the country, enabling security agencies to assess risks and make informed decisions prior to arrival.
Katambi explained that the introduction of APIS and PNR has strengthened border security and improved the efficiency of immigration and security operations at entry points.
Overall, he said the reforms and investments being implemented in the Ministry of Home Affairs are part of the government’s broader agenda to modernize internal security systems, improve service delivery, and enhance the capacity of security institutions to respond effectively to national challenges.
