The Dar es Salaam Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (DAWASA) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting locally manufactured products as part of broader efforts to boost the national economy while improving the availability of equipment used in water supply services across the country.

The assurance was given by DAWASA Chief Executive Officer, Mkama Bwire, during a visit to Lake Steel Company Ltd in Kibaha District, Coast Region, where he inspected the production of raw materials and pipes used in water infrastructure projects.

Speaking after touring the factory, Eng. Bwire said DAWASA believes in supporting local industries that manufacture essential materials for the water sector, noting that the move not only improves service delivery to wananchi but also contributes to the country’s industrial and economic growth.

“We visited producers of key raw materials used in the water sector, particularly pipes that are essential in distributing water services to wananchi. We have witnessed the modern technology they are using and the quality of their products, which gives us confidence in continuing to support local manufacturers in order to strengthen domestic industries and the national economy,” he said.

He added that using locally manufactured products would help increase the availability of materials within a shorter time, reduce the cost of importing equipment from abroad, and accelerate the implementation of water projects.

Eng. Bwire further noted that closer collaboration between DAWASA and local manufacturers would play a critical role in ensuring efficient and sustainable water service delivery, especially at a time when demand for clean and safe water continues to rise in different parts of the country.

On his part, a representative of Lake Steel Company Ltd, Awdhesh Kumar, thanked the government through DAWASA for visiting the factory and witnessing its production capacity and advanced manufacturing technologies.

“Our company is committed to producing high-quality products that meet both national and international standards in order to support water projects efficiently. We believe that cooperation between DAWASA and Lake Steel will accelerate the development of the water sector and contribute to economic growth,” said Kumar.

The visit reflects DAWASA’s continued commitment to working closely with the private sector and local manufacturers to ensure reliable water services reach citizens while promoting the use of products made in Tanzania.
