Coastal Union have booked their place in the semi-finals of the CRDB Federation Cup after edging past Singida Big Stars 4-2 in a tense penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw in regulation time at Mkwakwani Stadium in Tanga.
The quarter-final encounter was tightly contested from the start, with both sides showing tactical discipline and a clear focus on avoiding costly mistakes.
The first half produced few clear-cut chances, as strong defensive lines and alert goalkeeping kept the score level going into the break.
After the restart, the tempo increased as both teams pushed forward in search of a breakthrough. Despite improved attacking intent, neither side was able to break the deadlock, with defenders and goalkeepers continuing to dominate key moments in the match.
With the score still 0-0 after 90 minutes, the match was decided through penalties, where Coastal Union held their nerve under pressure.
They converted four of their spot-kicks, while Singida Big Stars managed two, sealing Coastal Union’s progression to the last four of the competition.
The result also confirms Singida Big Stars as the first team to exit this season’s tournament.
In another quarter-final fixture, JKT Tanzania were facing Young Africans SC in a late clash to determine the final semi-finalist.
