Residents of Mtwara Region are set to benefit from improved access to digital and financial services following the opening of a new Yas Tanzania store aimed at expanding connectivity and supporting local economic activities.

The store was officially inaugurated on 14 April 2026 by Mtwara Regional Commissioner Donald Msengi, marking another step in efforts to bring essential telecommunications and financial services closer to communities across the region.

The new outlet is expected to serve a wide range of users, including small business owners, farmers, fishermen, and young people who depend on digital tools for communication and economic activities.

It will also help improve access to mobile connectivity, financial transactions, and customer support services.

Speaking during the launch, Msengi said the new investment will contribute to economic growth and job creation in the region.

“The opening of this store marks a major milestone for our region. These services will stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and improve the livelihoods of our people. It is a crucial step toward ensuring essential services are accessible within our communities,” he said.

According to Yas Tanzania Head of Stores, Ms. Sarah Sonelo, the decision to expand services in Mtwara was driven by increasing demand for reliable digital and financial solutions in a region with strong economic potential.

She noted that Mtwara remains an important economic hub supported by cashew farming, fishing activities, natural gas production, and port operations.

“Mtwara is a key economic hub for Tanzania, driven by activities such as cashew farming, fishing, natural gas, and port trade. Through this store, we are bringing services closer to our customers, enabling fast, secure, and convenient transactions while supporting local economic growth,” she said.

Sonelo added that the store will offer a wide range of services, including SIM card registration, smartphones, internet devices, and financial services through Mixx by Yas, as well as bill payment solutions.

“Our mission is to be a trusted digital ally to Tanzanians. This investment reflects our continued commitment to delivering solutions that directly improve people’s lives,” she said.

Yas Regional Director for South and Southern Highlands, Mr. Joseph Mutalemwa, also reaffirmed the company’s commitment to expanding its network and improving service quality across the country.

“We take pride in operating one of the fastest and most extensive 4G and 5G networks nationwide. Our goal is to ensure that every Tanzanian benefits from our services.

This store provides an opportunity to address challenges in the telecommunication sector while enabling greater participation in the modern economy,” he said.

The new store increases Yas’ presence in Mtwara to two major outlets, alongside 14 smaller service shops, and forms part of a nationwide network of more than 500 stores operated by the company across Tanzania.
