Vice President’s Office Netball team to open 2026 May Day games against Ministry of Water in Njombe

The Netball team of the Vice President’s Office will officially open the 2026 May Day Games when it takes on the Ministry of Water on April 16, 2026, at Mji Mwema Stadium in Njombe Region.

The opening match marks the start of this year’s national sports competitions held ahead of the International Workers' Day celebrations, which will be hosted in Njombe. 

The games bring together government ministries, departments, and public institutions in various sporting disciplines aimed at promoting unity, teamwork, health, and staff well-being.

According to the fixtures released on April 15, 2026 by the National May Day Games Organizing Committee, the netball category is expected to be highly competitive, with strong participation from various public institutions across the country.

The Vice President’s Office team will be making its debut in the netball competition of the May Day Games. Despite being new in the tournament, the team has expressed confidence after undergoing intensive preparations aimed at strengthening fitness, coordination, and tactical discipline.

Team officials said training sessions have focused on improving teamwork, stamina, and game strategy, with players showing steady progress ahead of the competition. 

They added that the squad is determined to compete strongly from the group stage.

The team has been placed in Group H alongside the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation and the Office of the Regional Commissioner for Dodoma.

After facing the Ministry of Water in the opening match, the Vice President’s Office will play its second group match on April 17, 2026, against the Office of the Regional Commissioner for Dodoma. 

The final group match will be played on April 18, 2026, against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.

The team’s coaching staff said the tournament is an important platform for building a strong and competitive squad for future national netball events. 

They noted that ongoing training is focusing on correcting minor technical gaps and improving match performance.

The 2026 May Day Games are being held under the theme: “Sports for Health, Employment, Joy and Continuous Work; Decent Work is a Strong Pillar for Sustainable Development in the Implementation of Vision 2050.”
