The Tanzania Forest Services Agency (TFS) has stepped up its push for accountability by directing staff to strictly observe professional ethics and ensure the proper use of institutional systems, in a renewed effort to curb corruption and improve service delivery.
The directive was issued on April 16, 2026, during the second day of an anti-corruption and ethics seminar held for officers and forest guards at the Sao Hill Forest Plantation.
The training is part of broader efforts to strengthen discipline and reinforce the responsibility of public servants in protecting national resources.
The seminar has brought together TFS personnel to sharpen their understanding of public service values, with emphasis on transparency, integrity and accountability in their day-to-day duties.
Officials say strengthening these principles is key to restoring public confidence and ensuring institutions deliver effectively.
Participants were also taken through the correct use of key institutional tools, including the Performance Evaluation and Planning Management Information System (PEPMIS), which is designed to improve performance tracking, efficiency and transparency within the agency.
Speaking at the session, Assistant Conservation Commissioner and Human Resources Manager, Bahati Mtomaye, underscored the importance of aligning conduct with public service standards, noting that ethical discipline and proper system use are central to institutional performance.
She said failure to follow established laws, regulations and procedures not only undermines efficiency but also erodes public trust in government institutions.
The renewed emphasis by TFS comes amid sustained government pressure on public institutions to tighten accountability mechanisms and intensify the fight against corruption.
Authorities have consistently called on civil servants to take personal responsibility in safeguarding public assets and delivering quality services.
The ongoing training at Sao Hill is expected to drive behavioural change among staff, embedding a culture of integrity, responsibility and results-driven performance within the agency.
