Tanzania has continued to make its mark on the international sporting stage after winning medals at the Gauteng Pickleball Open 2026 held in South Africa from March 3 to 6, 2026.
The tournament attracted strong competition from several countries across Africa, with players battling for honours in different categories.
Despite the stiff competition, Tanzanian athletes delivered strong performances to secure podium finishes and raise the country’s profile in the fast-growing sport of pickleball.
In the Men’s Singles Open category, Tanzania’s Fred Charles Kyando finished in third place after a competitive run in the tournament.
His performance highlighted the growing ability of Tanzanian players to compete at the international level.
The country’s biggest success came in the Mixed Doubles Open category, where Kartik Kapoor and Edna John Mfinanga emerged champions after securing first place.
The pair impressed throughout the competition with strong coordination, tactical discipline and consistent performance against their opponents.
Tanzania also claimed another podium finish in the Mixed Doubles 4.0 & Below category, where Peter Kelly and Abidha secured third place, further adding to the country’s medal tally.
The results reflect the steady growth of pickleball in Tanzania and the increasing participation of Tanzanian players in international competitions.
Sports stakeholders say the achievements demonstrate the country’s rising potential in emerging sports and encourage more young people to take part in international competitions and represent the nation globally.
