Tanzania has officially secured its place on the global events calendar after signing a landmark agreement to host the Miss World pageant, a development expected to significantly boost the country’s international visibility, tourism sector, and creative economy.
The signing ceremony took place in Dar es Salaam, bringing together senior government officials from the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and representatives of the Miss World Organisation.
The agreement marks one of the most high-profile international entertainment partnerships ever hosted by Tanzania.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, described the agreement as a major breakthrough that reflects Tanzania’s growing capacity to host world-class events.
He said the country is now entering an important preparation phase to ensure successful delivery of the global competition.
He emphasized that hosting Miss World is not only about entertainment, but also about economic transformation, youth empowerment, and global branding.
According to him, the event will provide a powerful platform for young Tanzanians to showcase their talents in fashion, modelling, culture, and creative arts to an international audience.
Makonda noted that the opportunity will open doors for many young people to connect with global industries and expand their careers beyond national borders.
He added that Tanzania’s creative sector stands to benefit from increased exposure and new investment opportunities.
He further highlighted that the achievement reflects the broader diplomatic and economic efforts under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose international engagement strategy has strengthened Tanzania’s image as a safe, stable, and attractive destination for global events and investment.
“Under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, Tanzania has continued to gain international trust. This has opened doors for us to host major global events that bring visibility and economic opportunities,” he said.
Organisers expect participation from more than 130 countries, making the pageant one of the largest cultural and entertainment gatherings in the world.
The event is also projected to reach billions of viewers globally through television broadcasts, streaming platforms, and social media coverage.
Authorities estimate that over 20,000 international visitors will travel to Tanzania during the event period, including contestants, media teams, event officials, and tourists.
The global audience is expected to exceed two billion people, offering Tanzania unprecedented international exposure.
The competition will run for approximately 28 days and will include a series of high-profile activities such as cultural exhibitions, talent showcases, charity and community outreach programs, and the grand finale.
These events are expected to highlight Tanzania’s rich cultural heritage, tourism attractions, and hospitality.
Government officials have called for strong collaboration between the public and private sectors to ensure smooth preparations and successful execution.
They urged stakeholders in tourism, hospitality, transport, and entertainment to take advantage of the opportunities that will come with hosting such a major global event.
The private sector is expected to play a key role in supporting infrastructure, accommodation, logistics, and service delivery, as demand is projected to rise significantly during the event period. Businesses are being encouraged to prepare early in order to maximize benefits.
Beyond economic gains, the Miss World pageant is also expected to enhance Tanzania’s global branding, positioning the country as a leading destination for tourism, culture, and international conferences in Africa.
The event is anticipated to attract future investments and strengthen international partnerships.
Analysts say the exposure will also benefit tourism promotion by showcasing Tanzania’s natural attractions, including national parks, beaches, mountains, and historical sites, to a global audience.
For young people, the event is seen as a source of inspiration, particularly in creative industries. It is expected to encourage greater participation in arts, fashion, and entertainment, while promoting confidence and innovation among youth.
With preparations now set to intensify, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Tanzania delivers a successful, safe, and globally competitive event that will leave a lasting positive impression on the world stage.
The signing of the agreement marks a new chapter for Tanzania’s engagement with global cultural and entertainment industries, reinforcing its position as an emerging hub for international events and creative exchange.
