Tanzania has stepped up efforts to strengthen professional skills and institutional capacity after senior government officials held talks with the African Capacity Building Foundation on the sidelines of the IMF-World Bank Spring Meetings 2026.

The meeting, led by Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-maamry Mwamba, brought together Tanzanian experts and ACBF Executive Secretary Mamadou Biteye at the Tanzanian Embassy in Washington, D.C..

Discussions centred on how the foundation can support Tanzania in building a skilled workforce in priority sectors, with a focus on improving policy planning, economic management and institutional performance.

Dr. Mwamba said capacity-building programmes must be aligned with the country’s long-term goals under the Tanzania Development Vision 2050 to ensure effective implementation and measurable results.

The talks also explored opportunities for tailored training, technical support and knowledge exchange to help Tanzanian professionals respond to emerging economic challenges.

Also present were Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office – Planning and Executive Secretary of the National Planning Commission, Dr. Tausi Kida, Deputy Executive Secretary Sosthenes Kewe, Assistant Director for Legal Services at the Ministry of Finance Zawadi Maginga, and macroeconomist Angela Uforo Shayo, among other senior officials.

The engagement signals Tanzania’s intention to deepen partnerships with regional and international institutions to build human capital and support its broader economic transformation agenda.
