Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening cooperation with the Commonwealth of Nations following high-level talks between Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Policy, Parliament, Coordination and Persons with Disabilities), Palamagamba Kabudi, and the Special Envoy of the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Lazarus Chakwera.
The meeting, held in Dar es Salaam on April 9, 2026, forms part of a broader diplomatic engagement aimed at enhancing governance, political dialogue and inclusive development among member states.
Dr Chakwera is in Tanzania on an official working visit that will run until April 16, 2026, during which he is expected to hold consultations with a wide range of stakeholders, including government leaders, political parties, civil society organisations and retired national leaders across Dar es Salaam, Dodoma and Zanzibar.
His visit underscores the Commonwealth’s continued interest in supporting democratic processes and institutional strengthening in member countries, while also providing a platform for exchanging views on key national and regional priorities.
The envoy arrived in the country on April 8, 2026, and was received by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ngwaru Maghembe.
He began his official schedule a day later with talks with the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, in Dar es Salaam.
Analysts say the visit reflects Tanzania’s growing role in regional diplomacy and its continued engagement with international partners to promote dialogue, stability and development.
