Students laud President Samia for infrastructure boost at Rungwa Secondary School

By our correspondence,

Students and teachers at Rungwa Secondary School in western Tanzania have praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan for what they described as significant improvements in education infrastructure, including new dormitories, classrooms and a dining hall.

The remarks were made during a visit by Mabula Marco Mabula, Assistant Secretary for International Relations, Colleges and Universities in the youth wing of the ruling party (UVCCM), who met with the school community.

According to students and staff, the government has constructed five new dormitories, a modern dining facility, additional classrooms and science laboratories, while also increasing the school’s operational budget.

They said the improvements had boosted morale and enhanced the learning environment for students across all levels, from lower secondary to advanced level.

Speaking during the visit, Mabula — an alumnus of the school — highlighted broader education reforms under President Samia, including the expansion of free education from primary through advanced secondary level.

He also pointed to increased funding for higher education loans, noting that the government has disbursed about 3.6 trillion Tanzanian shillings between the 2021/2022 and 2025/2026 financial years to support students in tertiary institutions.

In addition, more than 2,800 students have benefited from the Samia Scholarship programme, while over 8,000 students have received loans for mid-level colleges worth about 48 billion shillings, he said.

Mabula urged Form Six students to prepare diligently for their national examinations scheduled for early May, encouraging them to pursue higher education opportunities both within and outside the country.

He also called on selected graduates to participate in the National Service (JKT), describing it as an important platform for building discipline, patriotism and self-reliance among young people.

The visit concluded with appreciation for the school leadership, headed by Principal Emmanuel C. Mwamwezi, for maintaining strong academic performance.
