The Tanzania Boxing Federation has announced the National Open Boxing Championships for both men and women, which will take place from April 20 to April 26 this year at the Police Academy of Studies (DPA) in Kurasini, Dar es Salaam.
The week-long competition is expected to attract boxers from different regions across the country, providing a key platform for identifying emerging talent and strengthening the development of boxing in Tanzania.
Speaking on the preparations, the Federation’s Secretary General, Makore Mashaga, said the event has been carefully organized to ensure a competitive and well-structured championship that supports the growth of the sport at national level.
He said the championship will also serve as a talent identification stage for boxers who can be groomed for national team duties and future international competitions.
In addition to the bouts, Mashaga said the federation will conduct special training sessions for national-level coaches and referees.
The training is aimed at improving technical competence, professionalism, and the overall quality of officiating and coaching in the sport.
According to him, registration and verification of boxers will be conducted on April 20 starting at 9:00 a.m. at the competition venue, followed by a technical meeting to finalize fixtures and the official schedule.
The opening bouts are scheduled to begin on April 21 at 2:00 p.m., while the finals will be held on April 26, marking the conclusion of the championship.
Mashaga stressed that all participating teams must be accompanied by both a coach and a team manager during registration to ensure smooth coordination and avoid unnecessary delays in the competition process.
He further called on stakeholders in the boxing community, including regional associations, coaches, and supporters, to work closely with the federation to ensure the successful staging of the championships.
The federation noted that the tournament forms part of broader efforts to revive and strengthen competitive boxing in the country by creating consistent opportunities for athletes to compete while also improving the technical capacity of those managing the sport.
