With the Tanzania Olympic Committee (TOC) General Election set for April 12 in Dar es Salaam, candidate for a membership position, Muharami Mchume, has intensified his campaign, calling on chairpersons of sports associations under Olympic and Commonwealth disciplines to entrust him with the role.

Mchume said his long-standing involvement in sports as both a coach and administrator has equipped him with the knowledge and leadership skills needed to serve the committee effectively.

He stressed that, if elected, he will uphold professionalism, accountability and integrity while working to strengthen the country’s Olympic movement.

He pointed to his contribution to sports development, including translating the book Olympic Memoir into Kiswahili, a milestone he said has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and has helped widen access to Olympic education among local stakeholders.

Mchume also highlighted his role in bringing a modern portable volleyball court into the country, featuring technology designed to reduce knee injuries among players.

He described the initiative as part of broader efforts to improve athlete welfare and upgrade sports infrastructure.

He noted that these achievements were realized during his tenure as Secretary General of the Tanzania Volleyball Association (TAVA), where he championed reforms and innovation in the sport.

Mchume said his vision is to build on such progress by promoting transparency, inclusiveness and development across all Olympic sports in Tanzania.

The TOC election is expected to draw stiff competition, with candidates stepping up campaigns to convince voters ahead of what is shaping up to be a closely contested poll.
