Government intensifies strategic investments to expand youth employment opportunities

The Government of Tanzania has intensified implementation of strategic development projects aimed at expanding employment opportunities for young people, while also advancing reforms in key national policies to strengthen job creation across the country.

This was stated on April 17, 2026, in Parliament in Dodoma by the Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office – Labour, Youth Employment and Industrial Relations, Rahma Kisuo, when responding to a question from Bukoba Rural Member of Parliament, Dr. Jasson Samson Rweikiza, who sought to know the Government’s concrete plans to ensure sufficient job opportunities for youth.

Rahma Kisuo told the House that the Government is continuing to prioritize large-scale infrastructure and economic projects that are strategically designed to stimulate production, attract investment, and generate employment opportunities for young people in both rural and urban areas.

She said these initiatives are being implemented alongside deliberate efforts to strengthen collaboration with the private sector, which remains a key driver of job creation in the country.

According to her, the Government recognizes that sustainable employment growth depends on strong investment and an enabling business environment.

The Deputy Minister further explained that the Government is also developing and implementing specialized programmes that enable young people to acquire practical skills in sectors with high potential for employment.

These programmes are designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real labour market needs, ensuring that graduates are more competitive and job-ready.

In addition, Rahma Kisuo noted that the Government is undertaking comprehensive reforms in key policies, including the Education and Training Policy of 2014 (2023 edition), with the aim of aligning education outcomes with labour market demands.

The reforms are expected to improve the quality of skills among graduates and increase their chances of employment or self-employment.

She also highlighted the implementation of the National Skills Development Programme, which focuses on equipping Tanzanians with practical and market-relevant skills.

The programme has so far benefited a total of 168,657 citizens, who have acquired various competencies that enable them to access employment opportunities or start their own income-generating activities.

The Government reaffirmed its commitment to continue strengthening strategic investments, policy reforms, and skills development initiatives as part of a broader national agenda to empower youth and expand decent employment opportunities across the country.
