Government has approved the allocation of TZS 544 million for the construction of Chifutuka Secondary School in Bahi District, a move aimed at expanding access to secondary education and strengthening learning infrastructure in the area.

The announcement was made by the Minister of State, Prime Minister’s Office – Regional Administration and Local Government (PMO-RALG), Riziki Shemdoe, during a ceremony held on April 17, 2026, at Chiona Primary School grounds in Bahi District.

The event brought together education stakeholders, teachers, students, and local leaders to recognize outstanding academic performance in national examinations.

Prof. Shemdoe said the funding follows a request submitted by the Member of Parliament for Bahi, Kenneth Nollo, who raised the need for a secondary school in Chifutuka Ward due to increasing demand for education services.

He explained that after receiving the request, he communicated with Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba, who forwarded the matter to Government leadership.

The Government, through President Samia Suluhu Hassan, approved the release of TZS 544 million for the implementation of the project.

Prof. Shemdoe said the Government’s decision reflects its continued commitment to expanding access to quality education, particularly in rural areas where infrastructure gaps still exist.

He noted that the new school will help reduce the distance students currently travel to access secondary education and improve the learning environment in Chifutuka Ward.

He added that the investment is part of broader Government efforts to strengthen education infrastructure in line with increasing enrolment at primary and secondary levels across the country.

Prof. Shemdoe also commended Bahi District for its strong academic performance, noting that it ranked as the best-performing council nationally in the 2025 Standard Seven examinations.

He attributed this achievement to strong cooperation between teachers, students, parents, and education officials.

He urged local leaders and community members to closely supervise the project to ensure timely completion and adherence to quality standards. He emphasized that community participation is key in safeguarding Government investments.

On behalf of the people of Bahi District, Prof. Shemdoe expressed gratitude to the Government for responding promptly to the request.

He said the project will significantly improve access to secondary education and support long-term development in Chifutuka Ward and surrounding areas.

Residents welcomed the announcement, describing it as a major milestone that will ease pressure on existing schools and improve education delivery in the district.
