Dar es Salaam is set to host one of the country’s biggest swimming events, as 190 athletes prepare to compete in the National Club Championship from April 10 to 12 at the Tanganyika International School (IST) pool.
According to Amina Mfaume, Technical Director of the Tanzania Swimming Association (TSA), the participants represent 16 clubs, with 14 coming from mainland Tanzania and two international teams from Zambia and Kenya.
“Preparations are on track to ensure a professional and competitive championship. Inviting foreign teams is part of our strategy to raise the level of competition and provide local swimmers with valuable exposure,” Ms. Mfaume said.
The championship also doubles as a qualifying event for the World Swimming Championships in China this December.
Tanzania will be represented by four swimmers—two men and two women—vying for a chance to compete on the global stage.
The event’s goals go beyond competition. It seeks to elevate the standard of swimming in the country, offer young athletes a platform to showcase their talent, and identify the best representatives to carry Tanzania’s flag in international tournaments.
With top swimmers from both local and regional clubs expected, the championship promises thrilling races and a display of the nation’s growing talent in aquatic sports.
