Tanzania’s FIFA Series campaign gets off to a rocky start

By Victoria Godfrey

The Tanzanian national football team, Taifa Stars, suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Liechtenstein in their opening match of the international friendly FIFA Series, played on March 26 in Kigali, Rwanda.

The match was closely contested, with Taifa Stars starting cautiously while their opponents capitalized on the limited chances they created.

The first half ended goalless, as both sides struggled to break the deadlock. However, in the 56th minute of the second half, Farhat Saglam found the back of the net, giving Liechtenstein a lead that they held onto until the final whistle.

Despite increased attacking efforts from Taifa Stars in the latter stages of the game, the team was unable to find an equalizer, and the match concluded with a 1-0 loss for Tanzania.

The Taifa Stars now turn their focus to upcoming friendly fixtures, part of their preparations for future international competitions.

The coaching staff remains optimistic that the team will correct the mistakes highlighted in this match and bounce back stronger in their next outings.
