Tanzania prioritizes security ahead of AFCON 2027

As Tanzania gears up to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), ensuring the safety and security of players, fans, and stadiums has become a top priority.

The National Organizing Committee for AFCON 2027 recently held a key meeting in Dar es Salaam with Mr. Valeroo de Divitiis, Head of the Sports Security Unit from the United Nations, to discuss strategies for protecting everyone involved in the tournament.

Acting Director of the Sports Development Department, Mr. Boniface Tamba, stressed that Tanzania is committed to creating a safe and orderly environment that meets international standards. 

“We are focusing on strengthening stadium infrastructure, crowd control systems, and overall management of large sporting events,” he said.

Mr. Tamba added that the meeting aimed to enhance coordination between security agencies and sports authorities, carry out risk assessments, and establish reliable safety measures to ensure Tanzania fulfills its responsibilities as a host nation.

Chairman of the AFCON 2027 Organizing Committee, Mr. Leodgar Chila Tenga, highlighted that the government and sports stakeholders are dedicated to making the tournament a success not only by showcasing high-quality football but also by guaranteeing the highest levels of security for everyone attending.

With these preparations underway, Tanzanians and visitors can look forward to enjoying AFCON 2027 in a safe, well-organized, and world-class environment.
