Tanzania lures global investors to tap into the country’s cotton and textile sector

Tanzanian Ambassador to the United States, Elsie Sia Kanza, has rallied global investors to tap into the country’s cotton and textile sector, highlighting vast opportunities during the 83rd plenary meeting of the International Cotton Advisory Committee.

Speaking at the high-level forum held in Bremen, Germany from March 23–24, 2026, Ambassador Kanza joined key industry players in charting strategies to unlock investment and expand value chains in the fast-growing global textile industry.

The envoy noted that the sector contributes about 1.8 trillion US dollars annually to the global economy and remains a major source of employment, particularly for women and youth.

Commenting about Tanzania, she said, textiles account for over 95 per cent of exports benefiting from the African Growth and Opportunity Act, underlining the country’s strong position in accessing the US market.

Additionally, she said that Tanzania still holds significant untapped potential to expand production and maximise gains from AGOA, calling for increased investment across the cotton-to-textile value chain.

The meeting brought together senior government officials, private sector leaders, business associations and academic institutions from ICAC member countries to explore emerging opportunities in the industry.
