Tanzania launches sourcing and export centre to boost youth in business and industry

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzanian government has launched a new Sourcing and Export Centre alongside a Youth Investor Training Program at the Benjamin William Mkapa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Mabibo, Dar es Salaam.

The initiative, unveiled today by the Minister of State in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Prof. Kitila Alexander Mkumbo, aims to equip young people with the skills and tools to thrive in business and industrial production.

The centre will provide young entrepreneurs with training in entrepreneurship, production, and investment, as well as support in accessing capital, modern production technologies, and simplified procedures for entering international markets.

The move is expected to strengthen local producers and make them competitive in regional and global markets.

The Youth Investor Training Program will begin with a pilot phase for 30 to 50 participants. Over eight weeks, trainees will receive hands-on instruction on entrepreneurship, production, and marketing, using the SEZ’s infrastructure to learn production methods focused on exports.

Prof. Mkumbo described the launch as more than a program, calling it “a new pathway for Tanzanian youth to enter the industrial economy, modern production, and global markets.”

Through this initiative, the government aims to empower 50,000 to 100,000 young people by 2030 to start and manage their own businesses, create jobs, and increase youth-led industrial production nationwide.
