President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, held bilateral talks today with President of the Republic of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama, at the State House in Arusha.

The discussions focused on strengthening strategic cooperation between Tanzania and Ghana, particularly in economic reforms, youth employment, and the development of the digital economy.

The two leaders emphasized the importance of increasing the value of domestic resources instead of continuing to export raw materials.

President Mahama highlighted measures Ghana has implemented to strengthen governance in the mining and cocoa sectors, aiming to boost domestic revenue and promote local processing.

President Dr. Samia noted that Tanzania is accelerating its industrialization strategy, including adding value to strategic crops such as cotton and enhancing mineral processing.

She also acknowledged Ghana’s experience in resource management and domestic economic policies as valuable lessons for Tanzania.

On youth employment, both presidents agreed to enhance cooperation in skills development, innovation, and entrepreneurship, stressing the need to create favorable investment environments that generate sustainable jobs for young people in both countries.

In the economic arena, President Dr. Samia reaffirmed Tanzania’s commitment to strengthening digital financial systems and cybersecurity as part of its strategy to build a competitive and inclusive economy.

She noted that the Tanzanian government continues to invest in ICT infrastructure and youth innovation, while Ghana’s experience in fintech and cybersecurity offers opportunities for learning and collaboration to improve financial inclusion and service efficiency.

The leaders also welcomed the expansion of Air Tanzania (ATCL) flight services between Tanzania and Ghana, noting that direct flights will facilitate trade, tourism, and people-to-people interactions, while boosting business not only between the two countries but across the African continent.

President Mahama is in Tanzania for a one-day working visit and is scheduled today, March 2, 2026, to serve as the Guest of Honor at the Opening of the Judicial Year and the 20th Anniversary celebrations of the African Court on Human and Peoples’ Rights, headquartered in Arusha.
