Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba on Monday inspected a newly constructed Mother and Child building at Haydom Lutheran Hospital in Mbulu District, Manyara Region, a TZS 6.3 billion project aimed at strengthening maternal and newborn healthcare services.

The modern facility is expected to improve the environment for providing maternal and child health services while meeting contemporary medical and patient safety standards.

Authorities say the project will help reduce maternal deaths and ease congestion among patients seeking maternity services at the hospital.

The church-owned hospital has remained a key partner of the government in the delivery of community health services, providing referral and specialised medical care to residents of Manyara Region and neighbouring regions.

Speaking after inspecting the facility, Dr Nchemba said the government recognises the vital role played by faith-based institutions in supporting social service delivery across the country.

He said Samia Suluhu Hassan acknowledges the significant contribution made by religious organisations, including the Lutheran Church, in promoting community welfare through sectors such as healthcare and education.

“The government saw the importance of providing tax exemptions to institutions undertaking such work because they play a major role in strengthening social services. The President also recognises the great work being done by health workers, including those here at Haydom, as you are saving the lives of Tanzanians,” said the Prime Minister.

He commended health workers at the hospital for their commitment to delivering life-saving services and urged them to continue providing quality care to mothers and children.

The new Mother and Child building is expected to expand the hospital’s capacity to handle maternity cases and enhance specialised services for mothers and newborns, further strengthening healthcare delivery in Manyara and surrounding regions.
