The TZS 60.1 billion project, launched in the 2023/2024 fiscal year, is now 96 percent complete. Speaking during the visit, Dr. Nchemba commended the people of Rukwa for the new modern airport, describing it as a symbol of the region’s transformation.

“Rukwa is no longer the old Rukwa. Today, it is a modern region keeping pace with the nation’s development,” he said.

He added that projects like this reflect the Sixth Phase Government’s commitment to delivering impactful infrastructure that benefits both current and future generations.

The upgraded airport is expected to improve air transport services across the Southern Highlands and stimulate economic and social activities in the region.
