Premium Active Tanzania, a leading tobacco purchasing company, has strengthened government efforts to improve education by donating 403 desks to schools in Mlele, Nsimbo, and Mpanda Municipal Council.
The contribution will benefit 1,209 students, giving them proper seating and a better learning environment.
The desks were handed over on March 17 at different locations in Mlele and Mpanda districts by Yusuph Mahundi, Public Relations and Crop Management Officer at Premium Active Tanzania.
In Mlele, 203 desks were received by district council officials, marking the company’s commitment to community development as part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in areas where it operates.
“These desks are a contribution to community development and education in the districts where we cultivate tobacco,” Mahundi said.
Students at Utende Primary School, who previously had to sit on the floor, welcomed the donation. “Having desks will make learning easier and help us focus better in class,” said Elia Robart, a Grade Seven student.
Martin Mahinda, Education Officer at Mlele District Council, said the council previously faced a shortage of 2,116 desks.
With this donation, the gap has been reduced to 1,913 desks, allowing 609 more students to study while seated.
Mlele District Administrative Secretary (DAS), Yahaya Mbulu, commended the Premium Active Tanzania for supporting local development priorities and fulfilling its legal obligations toward the community.
In Mpanda, District Commissioner Jamila Yusuph lauded the company as a consistent partner in local development.
“This is not the first time Premium Active Tanzania has supported education here. Their contributions continue to benefit our schools and communities,” she said, noting that 250 desks were handed over to schools in Mpanda.
Mahundi highlighted that this year, Premium Active Tanzania has contributed desks and other resources to eight councils across five regions, supporting schools, water well projects, hospital equipment, construction materials, and sports facilities, with a total value exceeding TZS 162.8 million.
By addressing critical shortages in school furniture, Premium Active Tanzania is helping the government ensure that all children learn in a conducive and supportive environment.
