Members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Governance, Constitution and Legal Affairs have expressed satisfaction with the progress made in developing the Buzwagi Special Economic Zone (SEZ) Industrial Park in Kahama District, Shinyanga Region.

The committee made the remarks during a working visit to the industrial park on March 13, 2026. The delegation was received by the Deputy Minister in the President’s Office for Planning and Investment, Dr Pius Chaya.

Led by its chairperson, Dr Damas Ndumbaro, the committee toured various infrastructure facilities within the industrial park and later held discussions with officials on the current status of the project and its future development plans.

During the visit, the lawmakers were briefed on the development of the industrial park, which is expected to become an important centre for investment, industrial growth and job creation in Shinyanga Region and the country at large.

Members of the committee also offered guidance, views and recommendations on how the industrial park can be further developed to attract more investors and strengthen economic activities in the area.

The committee commended the joint efforts of Kahama Municipal Council, the Kahama District Commissioner’s Office, Barrick and the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (Tiseza) for working together to oversee the development of the project.

Speaking during the visit, Dr Ndumbaro stressed the importance of cooperation among government institutions in facilitating investment and improving the business environment.

He said public institutions should focus on supporting investors and removing barriers that may discourage investment.

He also noted that Tiseza has continued to play an important role in promoting investment in collaboration with the President’s Office for Planning and Investment.

On his part, Dr Chaya said the government will implement the committee’s directive to establish a One Stop Centre at the Buzwagi SEZ to make it easier for investors to obtain all required permits and services in one place.

He said the move will help reduce bureaucracy and speed up investment procedures.

“We have received the committee’s guidance to establish a service centre here so that investors can access all required services at once without unnecessary delays,” said Dr Chaya.

He added that the development of Buzwagi SEZ is aligned with Tanzania’s long-term economic vision, which aims to expand the country’s economy to one trillion US dollars by 2050 and increase average income per person to about 7,000 US dollars annually.

The Buzwagi industrial park is expected to play a key role in attracting new investments, boosting industrial production and creating employment opportunities for Tanzanians.
