Renowned professional basketball player Hasheem Thabeet has been elected President of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) following the general elections held in Dodoma at the end of February.
Thabeet takes over with a clear vision to strengthen basketball development at all levels from grassroots programs to international competition aiming to revitalize the sport and elevate Tanzania’s presence on the global stage.
In the same elections, Mohamed Kasui was elected Vice President, Fiston Kabinda appointed Secretary General, and Simon Mirondo named Deputy Secretary General.
Speaking after the announcement, Thabeet pledged to collaborate closely with all stakeholders to advance basketball across the country.
He highlighted the need to nurture young talent, enhance domestic leagues, and boost competitiveness in international tournaments.
Thabeet also promised a leadership style grounded in transparency, collaboration, and innovation, ensuring that the TBF serves as a catalyst for sustainable growth and development in Tanzanian basketball.
Observers have described the elections as a significant milestone for the federation, marking the start of new strategies aimed at expanding the sport’s reach and raising its profile nationally and internationally.
