The government has urged strict adherence to timelines for oil and natural gas projects, stressing their critical role in powering Tanzania’s economic growth.
Speaking during a meeting with the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) management, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Energy in charge of Oil and Gas, Dr. James Mataragio, emphasized that ongoing projects must be implemented and completed on schedule to ensure maximum benefits for the country.
Dr. Mataragio also directed TPDC to expand investment blocks to attract more investors into exploration and production activities.
“It is vital for TPDC to continue opening new investment areas to attract more investors into oil and gas exploration and production. These resources are crucial for energy security, electricity generation, and industrial growth,” he said.
Petroleum Commissioner Goodluck Shirima highlighted the government’s efforts to strengthen natural gas distribution infrastructure, aiming to increase usage across households, industries, and power generation.
He noted that private sector participation is being encouraged in strategic gas distribution projects, which are part of the government’s flagship initiatives to boost gas consumption.
TPDC Chief Executive Officer Mussa Makame assured that the corporation would continue implementing the Ministry’s directives to strengthen the oil and gas sector.
“TPDC will work closely with the Ministry of Energy to ensure oil and gas projects are implemented efficiently for the benefit of all Tanzanians,” Makame said.
Dr. Mataragio’s visit to TPDC is part of ongoing inspections of institutions managing the oil and gas sector.
The move is aimed at improving institutional oversight and ensuring that Tanzanians fully benefit from the country’s rich natural resources.
