Female staff of the Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) have marked International Women’s Day with a visit to Segerea Central Prison, delivering essential items to inmates as part of the agency’s annual community outreach program.

Receiving the donations, Segerea Prison Commissioner, Senior Superintendent of Prisons (SSP) Hamida Matimba, praised DART staff for their generosity.

She said the gesture demonstrates society’s care for those facing life challenges, including prisoners.

“We sincerely thank DART staff for this act of kindness. It shows that the community values and remembers the inmates, offering them comfort and hope,” SSP Matimba said.

Chairperson of DART Female Staff, Ms. Mwamvua Stambuli, said the visit reflects the agency’s long-standing tradition of supporting communities during International Women’s Day. This year, the team chose to extend their support to Segerea Prison inmates.

On behalf of DART’s Acting CEO, CPA Adv. Jerome Pantaleo Rweshagara encouraged staff to continue promoting the agency through social initiatives that give back to society.

The donations included rice, beans, sugar, bed sheets, soap, toothpaste, cooking oil, and sanitary towels.

This year’s Women’s Day theme, “Rights and Equity for Women and Girls: An Inclusive Foundation for Achieving Vision 2050,” underscores the critical role of women in driving Tanzania’s development toward Vision 2050.
