BRELA urges public to verify companies before doing business

By The Respondents Reporter

The Business Registrations and Licensing Agency (BRELA) has urged individuals, businesses, and institutions to confirm the legitimacy of companies before entering into any contracts or business agreements.

BRELA has highlighted instances where companies operate or sign deals without proper registration with the Companies Registrar, potentially violating Tanzanian law.

Such cases pose risks to both public and private entities engaging in business transactions.

Under the Companies Act (Cap 212) and the Business Names Act (Cap 213), all businesses are required to register and ensure their names are legally recognized.

Verification of company information can be done easily through BRELA’s Online Registrations System (ORS).

The Registrar emphasizes that due diligence is crucial, urging stakeholders to confirm a company’s legal status before signing agreements or conducting business.

BRELA says this step is key to protecting investors, clients, and the broader business environment.
