Twenty-seven boxing clubs have confirmed participation in the Dar es Salaam Regional Open Boxing Championship scheduled to take place later this month, with organisers saying preparations for the tournament are progressing smoothly.

Chairperson of the Dar es Salaam Amateur Boxing Association (DABA), Akaroly Godfrey, said the clubs have already expressed readiness to compete in the championship, which aims to promote the sport and identify emerging boxing talent in the region.

He noted that the competition forms part of the association’s broader efforts to strengthen the development of boxing by providing young and upcoming fighters with an opportunity to gain exposure and competitive experience.

Godfrey said the organisers expect the championship to serve as an important platform for discovering new talents who can later be nurtured and prepared to represent Tanzania in national and international competitions.

He added that such tournaments are vital in building a strong foundation for the sport by giving amateur boxers a chance to showcase their skills and improve their performance through regular competition.

The clubs that have confirmed participation include Ngome, Urafiki, JKT, Mavituz, Ngumbi, Magufuli Stand, Mbezi Beach, Azam, Mbagala, B Combinati, Ndame and Sifa.

Others are Tabata, Ushirikiano, Box Team, Big Right, Mabibo Box, Nacoz, Tandale, Beka Boxing, Fire Works, Hungary, Magereza, Polisi, Wahika and Safari Resort.

The championship is expected to attract dozens of amateur boxers from across Dar es Salaam, creating an opportunity to strengthen the growth of boxing while nurturing the next generation of the sport in Tanzania.
