Tanzania has ranked 11th globally and sixth across Africa and the Middle East among the world’s top-performing tourism destinations, according to a January 2026 report by UN Tourism.

The report assessed growth in international tourist arrivals between 2019 and 2025, placing Tanzania among the top 20 best-performing countries worldwide in the tourism sector.

UN Tourism said the rankings reflect a strong rebound and sustained growth in international arrivals compared with pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Tourism is one of Tanzania’s leading sources of foreign exchange and employment, supported by attractions such as wildlife safaris, Mount Kilimanjaro and the beaches of Zanzibar.

The latest ranking underscores Tanzania’s expanding presence in the global tourism market as countries compete to rebuild and grow the sector following pandemic-related disruptions.
