The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is set to officially launch the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS) on February 9, 2026, in a move expected to modernise and streamline the management of domestic taxes.
The Commissioner for Domestic Revenue, Mr Alfred Mregi, said the system would become operational in six days, replacing existing domestic tax management platforms.
He made the remarks on February 2, 2026, while opening an IDRAS training session at the Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre in Dar es Salaam for officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, together with ambassadors from various countries accredited to Tanzania.
Mr Mregi said IDRAS brings together all major domestic tax functions under one integrated digital platform.
These include taxpayer registration, filing of tax returns, tax payments, refunds for overpaid taxes, as well as the registration and management of Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFDs).
He said the new system is designed to improve efficiency, enhance transparency and simplify tax administration for both taxpayers and the Authority.
He noted that the rollout of IDRAS is part of broader efforts to leverage technology in improving public service delivery and strengthening domestic revenue collection.
IDRAS Project Manager Mr Frank Mwaselela said the system offers wide-ranging benefits by integrating services that were previously handled through multiple platforms.
He said the system will facilitate taxpayer registration, issuance of driving licences, registration of motor vehicles, submission of tax returns, tax collection and payments, management and follow-up of tax arrears, control of raw materials and goods, issuance of electronic receipts, processing of tax refunds, taxpayer communication, handling of tax objections and knowledge management.
Mr Mwaselela said the system is built on modern technology aimed at reducing administrative costs, improving compliance and enhancing the overall experience of taxpayers.
With the introduction of IDRAS, TRA expects to strengthen domestic revenue administration through improved efficiency and accountability, while offering more accessible and reliable services to taxpayers and the public at large.
