TRA to launch IDRAS to simplify tax services for Tanzanians

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is expecting to introduce a major shift in tax management with the launch of the Integrated Domestic Revenue Administration System (IDRAS), a new digital platform designed to bring all domestic tax services under one roof.

The system is set to go live on February 9, 2026, and is expected to make tax compliance faster, simpler, and more transparent for all Tanzanians.

TRA has completed virtual training for taxpayers, with physical sessions ongoing to guide users through the transition.

IDRAS replaces the old legacy systems and unifies services such as tax registration, vehicle and driving license management, tax return filing, electronic invoicing, refund processing, and compliance services including debt management, objections, appeals, and tax clearance certificates.

According to TRA, the new system will allow taxpayers to manage their taxes anytime through an online portal, track the progress of applications in real-time, and receive automatic reminders via SMS and email for deadlines and payments.

Fraud prevention measures, including QR code verification, have been incorporated to ensure the authenticity of documents. Users will also benefit from reduced costs, as online receipt issuance eliminates the need for physical paperwork.

For any questions or technical assistance, TRA has provided multiple channels, including toll-free numbers, WhatsApp, email, and the official website.

Taxpayers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with IDRAS ahead of the February launch to ensure a smooth and seamless experience.

TRA’s introduction of IDRAS marks a significant step toward modernizing tax administration in Tanzania, enhancing efficiency, transparency, and convenience for all citizens.
