New CHANETA leadership urged to launch constitution reforms

The newly elected leadership of the Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) has been called upon to immediately start reviewing and improving the association’s constitution to strengthen netball development across the country.

The appeal came from the Registrar of Sports Associations at the National Sports Council (BMT), Advocate Abel Ngilangwa, following CHANETA’s General Election held yesterday at the Planning College hall in Dodoma.

Advocate Ngilangwa emphasized that constitutional reforms are crucial to maintaining harmony among members and protecting the interests of athletes and association members.

“You must oversee district and regional associations to ensure their constitutions align with CHANETA’s, preventing conflicts and complying with BMT regulations,” he said.

He also urged the new leaders to promote women’s participation in leadership at all levels and manage the association according to good governance principles.

Allen Alex, Chairman of BMT’s Electoral Committee, stressed the importance of expanding membership and strengthening regional associations.

“For an association to thrive, it must have active members recognized in its constitution and functioning regional branches,” he said, adding that the leadership should also develop strategies to attract sponsors, noting that CHANETA has strong potential to secure funding from Tanzanians.

New CHANETA Chairperson Stella Mwangomale urged regional leaders to pay their BMT and CHANETA fees promptly. She also outlined plans to explore diverse funding sources to support the association’s programs.

“I encourage all members to fully use our social media platforms to discuss netball development. Let’s identify challenges and opportunities, then take action,” she said.

The recent election saw Juliana Manyerere elected as Vice Chairperson, Rahma Kilimba as Secretary General, Teddy Musyanyi as Assistant Secretary, and Rose Makange as Treasurer.

The Executive Committee members are Costansia Kisege, Halifa Rambi, Pili Mogella, Shukuru Kiwege, Stephen Mzee, and Sweetheart Magoti.
