TARURA completes Fungafunga Bridge improving connectivity in Morogoro

By The Respondents Reporter

The Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA) in Morogoro Municipality has completed the construction of the Fungafunga Bridge, a key infrastructure project linking Mji Mpya Ward and Kichangani Ward, bringing relief to residents who have faced transport challenges for many years.

The bridge addresses a long-standing problem, especially during the rainy season when flooding in the area used to cut off movement and disrupt economic and social activities.

For decades, residents struggled to cross the area safely, with businesses, school attendance and access to health services often affected by impassable roads.

Speaking on the impact of the project, residents said the new bridge has significantly improved connectivity between the two wards, enabling smoother movement of people and goods while stimulating local economic activities.

Traders, commuters and public service providers have welcomed the development, saying it has reduced travel time and increased safety.

They praised TARURA for completing the project and responding to the real needs of the community, noting that improved road infrastructure is essential for sustainable urban growth.

The bridge is also expected to strengthen trade links and encourage further investment in the surrounding areas.

Residents have further pledged to cooperate with municipal authorities to safeguard the bridge and other public infrastructure, stressing the importance of proper use and maintenance to ensure long-term benefits for the community.
